10. A sporting goods manufacturer makes footballs and soccer balls. Each ball requires 2 min on the cutting machine. A football requires i1 min on the stitching machine. A soccer ball requires 4 min on the stitching machine. How many of each type of ball can be produced each hour?

Ok so I've been trying to solve this problem for half an hour probably and even my mo tried and we can't solve it.
You're given a word eqation and we need to set up 2 equations for it (with x and y) and the solve for x and y.

I have the answer (which is 20 footballs and 10 soccer balls)
I also have the first equation (I think) which would be 3x+6y=60
(so x= amount of footballs and y amount of soccer balls)
But I don't know what would the second equation be :S
Can someone please tell me and help me solve this problem ?
Thanks

Hmeh? The way I see it - every football takes 3 minutes to make and every soccer ball requires 6 minutes. Each hour you can produce 20 footballs or 10 soccer balls

I know that but just copying off the answer (and using logic how soccer balls take twice as much) but I need the equations because that the whole point of what we're doing right now in math.

You over thought it. There are two equations, but it's simpler than you think. The equation you set up means that both of the balls are made together, not separately. But they are.

Since x equals footballs, and it takes 3 minutes for each, then it's simply:

3x = 60, thus 20 footballs in 60 minutes. I bet you can do the other one, same concept.
