How are they Australoids?  The Maoris came to New Zealand around 1000 AD, being a part of the broader Polynesian migrations across the Pacific Islands.  Australian Aborigines came to Australia long before that and are rather distinct from the Polynesians (who are related more so to the Filipinos and Southeastern Asians than any other group).

Eh, people who twist these kinds of statistics as "racist" are only looking for a fight.  They're not worth the consideration, to be honest, as there's really no right way when it comes to addressing anything mildly related to race to these people.  They can't seem to comprehend the difference between a statistic and stereotype, and as a result, they wind up fusing both as almost synonymous, as if by mentioning a statistic, you're saying that this is true for every individual of that group.

I've heard of stuff like this occurring among the natives of Brazil and the Aborigines of Australia, too, though you do hear very little of it.  Many would link this sort of thing to poverty (as I do believe all three of those groups tend to be more impoverished than the other groups in those countries).  So the question is whether you think it's a race or socioeconomic issue, and how would you go about addressing it?

Maori spoken in New Zealand, and also the earlier Moriori tongues, also form part of the Malaop-Polynesian group, and are related to Indonesian (Bahasa), just as English and Hindi are related through the (younger) Northern Sanskrit languages which formed the Indo-European family.
