Does anyone know any free programs I can download that would allow me to 'paint' parts of an image greyscale, and let me leave certain parts colorized?

Gimp is brilliant for a free program, it's a reasonable substitute for photoshop, just takes a bit more getting to know because it is less pretty. But you can download skins for it that help.
